Long ago, back in Eden
Adam and Eve disobeyed the one command they were given.
GOD kept His promise.
They died spiritually.

GOD’s promise to them was that a day would come when
The seed of the woman would bruise the serpent’s head.

The effects of the brokenness that entered the good world GOD created
Was going to one day be redeemed and made whole.
Throughout the history of the world
As told in the Bible
We see GOD setting aside a people for Himself
Through whom He would send a Redeemer.
A way to make His broken world whole.
It took the death of Jesus on the cross. stop
He was broken for us.
His resurrection and victory over death
Made us whole.

The power of Christ in us

THIS: “A way to make His broken world whole. It took the death of Jesus on the cross. He was broken for us. His resurrection and victory over death Made us whole.” Amen!
great news isn’t it tara:)
Yes and amen to this, Martha: “Now we are in this world with the Holy Spirit living out
The power of Christ in us
In order that the world will see what wholeness looks like.
Not perfection, but wholeness that is growing by His grace.”
I’m thankful for the amazing gift of Jesus—His life, death and resurrection. The freedom He promises and the deliverance He’s given us. What hope in your words!!
glad you stopped by jeanne:) so glad we can trust GOD’s Spirit to work wholeness in us as He grows us in grace. i loved carly’s question. it helped me go into more detail than i was able to on the post. the more we are aware of how broken we are, the more encouraging it is to realize He is working all our sanctification out so we will be more whole and like Him. it just won’t be finished until heaven.
“Whole, not perfect” — a wonderful HOPE!
Thank you!
thanks for stopping by barbara. carry’s comment has helped me further clarify what i meant by that. it is definitely a process while we a here on earth:) but when we get to heaven, it will be awesome on so many levels won’t it?
I love how you summarise the whole story of the Bible so concisely.
I’m interested by the question in your title because I would have answered no (and wrote about that in my post) and I think from your post you are saying yes. I totally believe Jesus’ death on the cross makes us whole and that we will experience that wholeness one day but I don’t think we’ll see it completely on earth or that people looking at me would think they are seeing what wholeness looks like.
I’m not sure if we are understanding the word wholeness in different ways- I suppose I’m seeing it more as a future thing than a present thing but I don’t know if that’s right. I’d be interested to know your thoughts. I’m not saying this to disagree- it’s just that your post is making me think and I’m interested to explore it some more.
yes Carly, we live in the already/not yet time. so complete wholeness won’t be seen now. i’m always frustrated by the 5 minutes. the time is so short:( we only have little glimpses of wholeness now. times when we see who we will be then. but somehow i wanted to communicate the fact that GOD sees us whole and complete in Christ now. i just couldn’t do it very well in this format. i needed some editing time:)
thanks for asking the question. good point:)
Thanks, Martha. That’s really helpful. I agree, 5 minutes is not long to write a post, but your post is great. My question was not a criticism of that at all. I think you explained things really well.
carly, i totally did not see it as a criticism, but it was a great question. i was particularly frustrated with this post. your question brought up that issue of whether we will be completely whole her on earth…and we won’t. that expression from throughout history is a great one. we live in the already/not yet. sin’s power over us was broken on the cross from GOD’s perspective. When He said, “it is finished”, He had accomplished the work He came to do and the debt for sin was paid. the power of sin over us was broken. as romans tells us in chapter 8, there is no no condemnation to those of us who are in Christ Jesus!
but b/c of the effect of sin on us, physically, spiritually and on creation, we still are broken and live in a broken world. b/f the cross, we couldn’t not sin. now we are able to not sin b/c of Christ…we just don’t always do what we should or are able to do in HIs power. we won’t be completely whole until we are with Jesus where there will be no more sin or temptation. where our brokenness will be completely gone! Where the garden of Eden will be returned only it will be better b/c we will know what it cost Jesus for us to be there, we will know the joy of His forgiveness and have an appreciation of that in a way that Adam and Eve didn’t when they were first in the garden enjoying fellowship with GOD…b/c it was all they ever knew.
during this time, GOD is slowly healing some of our brokenness, inches at a time as He sanctifies us through His Word, prayer, through true fellowship with other Christians, through our worship together and sacraments like the Lord’s supper together. These are a few of the ways throughout the history of His church that people have found wholeness growing after they came to Christ. I was reminded of it as i read Rosaria Butterfield’s book and it has been a helpful reminder as well.
thats for your great comment:) i love it for it’s helpfulness.
Stopping over from FMF. Enjoyed reading your post. His grace changes **everything**, and I am soo thankful it does!
glad you stopped by stacey:) you are so right. there isn’t anything about what He did for us that we deserved or earned. that is amazing and stunning isn’t it?
