The winds were whipping across the water
The boat was filling with water
The men were afraid…probably panicked.
Their boat was going to go under the water any minute!
And down below, their good friend was still asleep!
About the time they were ready to give up hope for their lives,
Their friend came up and told them to be at peace.
If they hadn’t been so scared, they would have laughed.
“You must be kidding!”
Then He said the words that stunned them, “Peace, be still!”
He spoke to the storm. And it stopped. Dead.
No more wind. No more lightening. No more waves.
The storm was quiet. The water was totally calm!
They rubbed their eyes.
They had never seen anything like this before. STOP
Their friend Jesus, was more than simply a man.
He was able to heal people.
He was also able to speak wise words to the religious leaders.
Now they had seen His power over the elements.
Who was He?
There was something special about Him for sure!
They had much to process.
Two years ago my husband and I went to Israel with a group from our church. We saw the Sea of Galilee and also went out on a boat. I was struck by how the Sea and surrounding hills look different when mists came in and at different times of day. We were told that because of the geography storms could come up suddenly on the Sea. I saw this record of the disciples, the storm and Jesus’ action with new perspective. We were very blessed by this trip. The Sea of Galilee was one of my favorite sites.
Carol, that must have been very special to have seen the sea of Galilee!
I love this Bible story. The storm was so crazy, the only thing guaranteed was death. Rather than ask Jesus to do a miracle, they panicked and wanted Him to join their cries. Instead He stilled everything–them and the storm.
What a moment in history!
I love that He still stills storms in my life today, leaving me with a jaw dropped.
it’s true isn’t it sabrina? it is so easy to look at them and wonder what was wrong with them, until i realize how easy it is for me to panic for the same reason!
it’s great how you describe the result of GOD’s stilling of storms:) leaving us with our jaws dropped! so true!
we’re looking for that as a church as we watch to see what GOD will do in providing a new pastor. We’re looking forward to seeing the work He does during the interim as well.
for many of you, it is in another area that you are watching to see GOD work…and bring His peace to work in your world.
Hi, Martha! Stopping by from five minute friday…
Love that even the winds & rains obey Him! It brings so much comfort when going through the storms of life.
Blessings!
so true denise. it is very comforting that he not onlly comforts the storms we can see, but the inner storms that cause us distress!
