Do you ever feel down at this season when everyone seems to feel happy, cheerful and blessed with family and friends?
Does it ever seem that the lives of everyone around you are going smoothly while your life is not always going as well?
Read the story at this link, that is behind the song I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day…by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
The last two verses of this song are where I live this year. My expectations aren’t high. I’m not shocked to see the world in turmoil, but this year it is very discouraging!
With people in our country at each others’ throats and people around the world fighting each other, it is discouraging to think that peace could exist anywhere!
And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;
- “For hate is strong,
- And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
- The Wrong shall fail,
- The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.
The truth is, there can be no peace without the coming of Jesus. Until we bow the knee to Him, we will not have a taste of peace.
May the peace of GOD be with us all.
This was written 12/21/14. It’s hard to believe that our world situation could be so much worse in just one year isn’t it? But the likelihood of peace on earth is slimmer now than ever before in almost every arena!
If our hope is in anything other than Christ, we have nothing to look forward to for sure! Blessings as you read this aging post. I hope you enjoy its mellowed words.
