It’s early in the New Year and I thought I would encourage us by finding reminders of places where the Bible talks about things that are new. This is one. It talks about singing a new song to the Lord as we worship Him. In fact, this whole Psalm was behind Isaac Watts’ hymn Joy to the World.
Talk about a new song! Jesus’ Advent was certainly a new song. It was the Song Israel had been awaiting for, for thousands of years!
This Psalm is a reminder to us of GOD our righteous King. It reminds His people of how faithful He was to them over centuries in the past…guiding and protecting them, and how He is going to faithfully care for them in the future.
Yes, we can sing a new song to Him. He has done marvelous things! We only need to look at the beauty of His creation all around us. Or remember His provision of redemption for us. Or recognize how He has provided for us over the years.
I need to change the words to the song I sing to Him. My new song needs to have less complaining, whining, moaning and more gratefulness for what He has done and how He has graciously provided . Oh sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things!
His right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
The Lord has made known his salvation;
he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations.
He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.Psalm 98:1-3 ESV
This fills me with praise and worship.
I love how everything is fresh (not stale) and new in the Eternal Spirit.
Thank you, Martha.
