This is one of my favorite newish Christmas songs. I’m not really a country song lover, but there is something about this tune that grabs me by the heart.
Usually, I choose favorite songs for the words first, then I listen to the music, but this one was a two-fer! Always my favorite kind of song…when I love the music AND the words! It took me awhile to realize it was in a minor key! No wonder I like it! It makes sense! There definitely is a sadness about the song.
Even though Mary didn’t realize the way Jesus’ earthly life would end, there was good reason for a song about her Son to be sung in a minor key! There was going to be a lot of sorrow surrounding His short life!

Buddy Greene wrote the music (1991).
Mary did you know that your baby boy would some day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you.Mary did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.Oh Mary did you know?
The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb.Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding is the great I am.
