The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.Psalm 23:1-4
When all is said and done, this is one of the all time great Scriptures on the word “path.”
As I feel the need more and more for the restoration of my soul, the leading in paths of righteousness and of having someone to walk with me through the valley of the shadow of death…I find comfort in these familiar words of David.
I still remember our friend Florence who was well into her 90’s, quoting this Psalm with Ron as he visited with her in the last days of her life. She was rarely talking much and had very little energy, but this was a Psalm she was able to quote easily as she knew her time was almost up here on earth. stop
As the Lord shepherds us through our lives, we can look back to see the paths he led us through. They were often twisted and curvy like a mountain road. At the time, the twists and turns made no sense! Sometimes they never do. But often, years and years later, the value is apparent.

Fortunately, it’s not all twists and turns. He provides restoration as well. He knows when we need it and in what ways we need it. It is comforting to know He knows even better than we do when we need restoration.
And ultimately, when we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death…either for ourselves or with loved ones, He is with us. We don’t need to fear. He is with us as we face death. He is with us to comfort is we are losing loved one.
As you face the paths before you, know the Good Shepherd is with you. Blessings!
THIS: “As the Lord shepherds us through our lives, we can look back to see the paths he led us through. They were often twisted and curvy like a mountain road. At the time, the twists and turns made no sense! Sometimes they never do. But often, years and years later, the value is apparent.” Great post. I didn’t even think about his path is in that Psalm. I’m in the 40 spot this week.

Good. Very good.
thanks susan:)
Such a great post, Martha! You’re right. There are times when, in the middle of a hard season, I can’t see what God’s doing with my path. But, years later, we can look back and see God—His presence, His purposes and His workings in our lives. I’m so glad He always walks with us, on every step of our paths.
for sure jeanne:) His silence doesn’t mean He isn’t there.
Martha, you are right, we did write similarly this week. Thanks for visiting my blog. So thankful that the Good Shepherd is always with us gently leading. Blessings to you!

Love this, Martha.
And as for walking through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I know that even as He walks beside me…He has been here before, and knows that there is sunlight and morning on the other side.
