I was recently asked how my plan for my life turned out.
It was an interesting question.
Although I didn’t have specific plans in terms of 5 and 10 year plans
Or specific goals I intended to reach along the way,
I did have some years that were better planned out than others.
When my children were young, I found that in order to survive,
I needed to have much more structure in my life just to get everything done
That needed to be done!
And still have time left for a bit of fun to be tucked in the corners.
But when I look back over almost 47 years of marriage,
I realize my life has been a joy and pleasure! stop
It has turned out far better than I ever dreamed it would.
Along the way, there have certainly been difficult times,
Some very hard years, unemployment, disappointments, sorrow.
But there have also been amazing joys, privileges, and opportunities.
Living in different parts of the United States, Jamaica and serving others.
It hasn’t always been fun.
But it has always been a delight to share in the fine china of the lives of women and their families
In a host of situations…and to find that GOD is big enough for every situation!
How did my plan work out?
The plan GOD had for my life worked out great.
It was way better and more delightful than the plan I could ever have imagined!
Never let anyone tell you that the plan GOD has for you and your life is dull
Or boring or second rate.
It just isn’t so!
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
So many of us have written that the only plans that come to fruition are God’s plans and when we surrender to them, magic happens. Dropping by from the #FMF linkup.
thanks for stopping by suzy:) i’m not quite sure that is how i would express it. i think i would say that i had some great plans for my life…but the ones GOD had for me, often either different, or with a different twist, took much more into consideration…understandably. His view is eternal. He is all-wise. He loves me and knows me in ways I don’t know myself…in terms of what i would find fulfilling, for example.
so i guess it’s no surprise that the plans He has for me are the best long term…even when they lead through hard times occasionally.
Hi Martha! I so love to hear your voice of experience, and this line is worth its weight in gold to me today: ‘The plan GOD had for my life worked out great.’ Whenever I struggle wondering if it’s all going to be OK, I’ll remember that. Thanks for posting! x
thanks for stopping by ruth. i loved your post as well:) reminded me of the fear connection in so much of our planning.
Great FMF! Mine was very similar in talking about God’s plan vs. our plans for ourselves. I’m SO glad He makes the ultimate plans because I can’t imagine what my life would be otherwise. Also, I really love the title of your blog! =)
thanks for your compliments katie:) you are so right! it is much better to have the one with the eternal perspective making the ultimate decisions about our lives isn’t it? our view is so short term…and superficial. we just don’t truly know the hearts of and true motives of people. we can only guess.
re the title of the blog, i like it too:) after much brain storming, it just came to me. it was much later that i learned there was both a book and a band with the same name. i’ll never be able to copyright the name, but since i’m not making millions, it won’t be an issue! 🙂
