If there is any summary of what Christ did for us in the Gospel, this may be it! I also chose this passage, because it isn’t Romans 8 (we have a number of passages from there) or I John (we have a few from there as well.) I love them all, but I love variety too! The rest of our passages are miscellaneous from other books. Of course, we haven’t scratched the surface! There is still a rich reservoir of passages left to go!
What do we find here?
- A GOD who is good, loving kind, righteous, merciful, gracious…
- A GOD who saved us.
How did He save us?
- Not because of our good works, but according to His mercy that He poured out richly on us through Jesus!
- He justified us by His grace so we might become heirs of the hope of eternal life.
What is the outworking of our salvation?
- Devotion to good works for GOD’s glory. We aren’t doing good works to earn our salvation. Our good works are being done out of thankfulness for GOD’s grace and mercy.
But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared,
he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness,
but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things,
so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works.
These things are excellent and profitable for people.

***I’m working on some Scripture memory cards to have for you to access to print up for yourselves. Even if you don’t want to memorize them, you can have them easily accessible to read often. It has just been difficult to get them all ready AND write everyday! Watch for them. They should be available soon once I figure out how to make them available to you. I have made them, I just have to figure out how to make them printable. I suspect it isn’t a difficult final step. I suspect the hardest part is done.
