Last week I was working on a short E-book that I plan to offer soon for my readers for your encouragement. It includes some posts, Scriptures and songs as well. It was fun putting together Scriptures and songs that will go together with posts that have already appeared here for you all on the topics such as being scared, overwhelmed and broken hearted. Then, I looked for songs, many of them were hymns, that spoke words to help people struggling in those areas. Yes, it took time, but it was also encouraging for me as I read through the many choices.

Spending the time I did browsing through GOD’s Word and listening to music buoyed me in ways I didn’t expect. What uplifting days I had. I hope the same will be true for those of you who read and listen to that short ebook. I’m hoping to have it ready in about a month. I’ll keep you posted.

What is it about GOD’s Word and hymns that are either based on Psalms or based on Biblical truth that is so encouraging?

It keeps reminding us of truth. We often hear lies spoken either in our culture or in our heads that tell us things about ourselves or our world that are untrue. We need GOD’s truth sung or spoken over us, around us, in us over and over again to remind us of the truth He has for us to hear.

Think of the following when you are struggling with your own kinds of thirst. Your culture tells you that you have a right to partake of anything you want in order to satisfy yourself. Sadly, the things you often think will satisfy, don’t. The voices in your head long to have any number of relief come from certain people or circumstances. But they rarely bring the satisfaction we expect…certainly not for the long term.

The story in John 4, of Jesus going to Samaria and asking the woman at the well for water only to offer her the Living Water is a challenge to us. Do we believe His words in John?

Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again,
but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.
The water that I will give him will become in him
a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 4:13-14 ESV

Believing and understanding what Jesus means are two different things for sure.

I don’t fully understand what He means, but I think part of it is that taking Him into my life will bring a soul satisfaction that isn’t found anywhere else. Finding our thirst quenched in Jesus must also be a matter of faith and belief, instead of continuing to search for new ways to find satisfaction somewhere else. Maybe it’s a spiritual version of KISS (Keep It Simple Sweetie).

I will believe it because if He said it, it must be true. On one level, I do believe it. That is intellectually. But in my heart, at the gut level, do I believe it? No, I’m not sure I do. If I did, I don’t think I would struggle like I do when life takes all the twists and turns it does into places I don’t want to go. I need to remember and put it on my heart: Jesus, the living water, is the only place I need to go to quench my soul thirst.

Jesus, the living water, is the only satisfaction I need.I will believe it because if He said it, it must be true. Yes, I believe it intellectually, but do I believe it in my heart at the gut level? Share on X

At any rate, I read, I memorize, and I sing songs that help me remember the truth. The truth here is that Jesus is the only One who is going to quench that deep down thirst within me for love, acceptance, satisfaction…you name it! Yes, even in the middle of hard times. His Living Water will provide a rich, full, flourishing life!

Come, Every One Who Is Thirsty in Spirit

1. Come every one who is thirsty in spirit;
Come, every one who is weary and sad.
Come to the fountain, there’s fullness in Jesus –
All that you’re longing for; Come and be glad!

Refrain:
“I will pour water on him that is thirsty;
I will pour floods upon the dry ground.
Open your heart for the gifts I am bringing;
While ye are seeking Me I will be found.”

2. Child of the world, are you tired of your bondage?
Weary of earth-joys, so false, so untrue?
Thirsting for God and His fullness of blessing?
List to the promise, a message for you. [Refrain]

3. Child of the Kingdom, be filled with the Spirit!
Nothing but fullness thy longing can meet.
’Tis the enduement for life and for service.
Thine is the promise, so certain, so sweet! [Refrain]
