Imagine what living in a perfectly beautiful environment would be like. The colors would be perfect, all the flowers would be at full bloom with none of  them fading. There would be no weeds…anywhere. There would be no bugs eating up the plants or in any way causing damage to them, nor would there be any problems with disease to the plants. Everything in this environment would be living in complete symbiosis with everything else. It is almost impossible to imagine. When we do, it can almost feel boring or fake. But it won’t be in heaven.

Imagine what the colors will be like.

It will be beautiful, most likely with colors we don’t even have here. Have you even thought of that? We are so limited on earth. There won’t be limitations in a negative way. The only limits will be that sin, failure, defeat, discouragement, darkness, sadness, sorrow…will be gone and won’t be allowed in. They will not be present in any form in heaven.

Imagine the music. How do you think it will sound?

Music will also have new dimensions I’m sure with a more complete scale and sounds we don’t have or can’t hear on earth. There are probably notes that don’t even exist in our realm that will exist in heaven. It will be amazing to see what music sounds like there. For sure, there will not be any discords, wrong notes, mistaken notes. And in singing, the same will hold true. Have you ever sat through a concert of music that was either poorly done or just wasn’t the kind of music you didn’t enjoy? That won’t happen in heaven. It will all have the variety we want, it will all be beautiful in all the ways we want, and it will all be glorifying to God! There will be no lyrics that are disgusting or vile.

What do you think we will be doing for work? What do you think you would enjoy doing?

There will probably be creative work for each of us to do just like there was in the Garden of Eden. The misery of work will be gone, but the delight and fulfillment of it will probably be there just like it was before the Fall. I wonder what kinds of things we will do?

Will we be exploring new horizons in space? Or identifying what will be there? Will we be visiting cities we didn’t get to see while we were here on earth the first time? Or will we be going to lands that have unique animals to enjoy them? We just don’t know. Will your job be obsolete in heaven like mine will be? I was a nurse and with no sick people there, there will be no need for my job. But I love quilting, working with color, creating. I think it will be interesting to see what I will be doing there with glorified creative gifts. Or gardening in a place with no weeds to fight and no back that gets sore. So fun to think about!

We do know there will be a new heavens and a new earth once Christ comes back to earth the final time. We know that lions and lambs will be able to lie down together peacefully. It will be a beautiful place, even better than the Garden of Eden.

So think about what you are expecting in heaven. Do you have any Biblical reason to believe it will be there? Why? Why not?

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.  And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.  And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.  By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it,  and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there.  They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.  But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
