GOD CREATED THE WORLD

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 ESV

THE EVERLASTING GOD, CREATOR OF THE WORLD, GIVES STRENGTH TO THE WEARY

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand
and marked off the heavens with a span,
enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure
and weighed the mountains in scales
and the hills in a balance?
Who has measured the Spirit of the Lord,
or what man shows him his counsel?
Whom did he consult,
and who made him understand?
Who taught him the path of justice,
and taught him knowledge,
and showed him the way of understanding?
Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket,
and are accounted as the dust on the scales;
behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust.

Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Isaiah 40:12-15, 28-29 ESV

GOD, THE CREATOR OF THE WORLD SAYS, “I AM THE LORD, THERE IS NO OTHER. TURN TO ME AND BE SAVED.”

For thus says the Lord,
who created the heavens
(he is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
(he established it;
he did not create it empty,
he formed it to be inhabited!):
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.

“Turn to me and be saved,
all the ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
By myself I have sworn;
from my mouth has gone out in righteousness
a word that shall not return:
‘To me every knee shall bow,
every tongue shall swear allegiance.’

“Only in the Lord, it shall be said of me,
are righteousness and strength;
to him shall come and be ashamed
all who were incensed against him.
In the Lord all the offspring of Israel
shall be justified and shall glory.”

Isaiah 45:18, 22-25 ESV

GOD HAS DELIVERED US FROM THE DOMAIN OF DARKNESS TO THE KINGDOM OF LIGHT, WHERE WE HAVE FORGIVENESS OF SIN

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Colossians 1:13-20 ESV

Last week we talked about Jesus as the Light. Today we are talking about the Creator who came to HIs creation. The Colossians passage above speaks of the Son (Jesus) being involved at creation. These verses give some background to what He did as Creator as well as how powerful He is.

In terms of hope, This builds on the definition of hope as being confident assurance based on the person and promises of God. As you look at who God is, it builds objectively on who He is and how confidently you can depend on Him to keep His promises both from the perspective that He is honest and trustworthy to keep His promises, He desires to keep them, and He has the ability and resources to keep them.

The One who could speak the world and everything in it, into being, with all its meticulous detail, is definitely Someone who has the resources to keep His promises. The One who was willing to come to earth from heaven and be a servant to people who would treat him miserably and eventually kill Him, definitely loved us with a sacrificial love, not one that was here to win applause.
