THE PROMISE OF LIGHT COMING TO THE WORLD
The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 ESV
THE CREATOR OF LIGHT
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Genesis 1:3 ESV
THE CREATOR OF LIGHT AND JESUS, THE LIGHT, ARE ONE.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God….
John 1:1-5, 9-12 ESV
THE LIGHT WILL ILLUMINE ALL OF HEAVEN IN PLACE OF THE SUN
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.
Revelation 22:1-5 ESV
Jesus, the God-man, came to earth as the Light. He was predicted in Isaiah. He was also the creator of light in Genesis. He was mentioned as both the Creator and the Light (Jesus) in John. In Revelation, John mentions that the light of God will illumine all of heaven in the place of the sun. Light is a major theme of the gospel of John as it refers to Jesus.
It was certainly a dark world. It was dark morally. It was dark in the sense that it was discouraging for the people of God. Of course, it was dark at night. It was into that world that He came to bring the light of hope, truth, love and forgiveness.
