eat, fun

About a month ago, my daughters and I met in Carmel, CA for a long weekend for a belated celebration of my 70th birthday. To say it was a delightful weekend is an understatement!

We live far apart! I live near one daughter in Huntsville, AL. Another one lives about a day’s drive away in St. Louis, MO. The other daughter lives near Seattle, WA! To say that all of us get together at the same time rarely is a sad truth.

One of the most enjoyable things about the weekend was eating together. Our mornings were especially enjoyable. The hotel where we stayed had a free champagne buffet breakfast which was amazing! It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before for less than $20!

We took a walk on the beach first, then came up to the terrace and chose from a beautiful array of fresh fruits, cereals, waffle bar (made to order) and omelet bar (made to order)…to name a few. Then we sat down and visited as our food was made. We looked out over the ocean view. The girls enjoyed the quiet of their breakfasts without the craziness their mornings usually had with getting children ready for school!   stop

No, no one wanted their lives to change. But this short reprieve was delightful! Enjoying the conversation was fun for me because it took me back to the years we all were together.

Each person’s sense of humor showed up in the same old ways. The ones who were more adventuresome tended that way still. Each had her unique sense of humor and personality to bring to the table. Each brought her special set of memories as well as telling us stories of their kids.

The weekend was delightful for starting to catch us up on the lives of each other.  Much of our time was spent eating delicious food. The rest was walking on the beach or exploring. Well, there was some reading done as well…

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me shall not hunger,
and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

I am the bread of life.
Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness,
and they died.

This is the bread that comes down from heaven,
so that one may eat of it and not die.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven.
If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.
And the bread that I will give for the life of the world
is my flesh.”

John 6:35, 48-51
