Keep a promise.
Something we don’t see as much these days.
There was a time when it meant something to be a “man” of your word…or woman!
Honesty was held in high regard.
I remember when “white lies” started to be ok in some places.
The argument was that it was the loving thing to do!
You realize that is a shovelful of you-know-what!
It is only loving for the person who doesn’t want to go to the short term
Discomfort of telling the truth.
But the place where this has had a horrible effect has been the family.
Husbands and wives promise to stick together through
Poverty and wealth,
Sickness and health. stop
In order to do that, they must be truth tellers and truth lovers.
Of course, we need to have the wedding in a church
In the context of a worship service.
No one can make a promise like that without a relationship
With a GOD who can enable them to keep it…and repent…and forgive!
This is the GOD who has kept His promises…
Everytime!
In Genesis 15, He made a covenant with Abram
And He was true to His word.
No, not on Abram’s timing, but just in time
He gave Abram and Sarai their son Isaac.
Much later, He sent Jesus, the promised Messiah
To die to redeem His people.
He has kept His word.
He promised to keep His people to the end of time.
What a powerful, all-sufficient, faithful, truth-keeping GOD we have.
He keeps His people and He holds His world together.
Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God.
He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations
and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him
and obey his commands.
Deuteronomy 7:9
He will keep you strong to the end
so that you will be free from all blame
on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.
I Corinthians 1:8
Are you encouraged to think about GOD’s ability to keep you?
Does it give you hope to know that GOD can enable you to keep your promises?
Especially the big ones that take lots of small truthfulnesses to keep?
I love this post! So many good bits I want to go back and think and pray over.
Thanks for sharing.
i’m glad you found it helpful mama bee:) i checked out your blog too and enjoyed it. you go! great job:)
Ah, it’s so easy to slip into half-truths and white lies, isn’t it? But it’s so incredibly important to be a person of our word–because God keeps his word, and our goal is to let him work in our life and make our character over in his image.
hi anita. i got interrupted by my life today:) yes, half-truths and lies fly all around us. we tell them to ourselves too! GOD’s word is the only thing that will keep us on track. I wasn’t always as convinced as I am now. But I definitely believe it now for sure!
Such a neat reminder that our promise kept is also with the One who keeps all His promises. Thank you!
welcome cynthia:) it is comforting to know that He does keep His promises isn’t it?
